How Much Does Eyelid Surgery Cost?

How Much Does Eyelid Surgery Cost?

Are you considering eyelid surgery to fix your tired-looking eyes?  Eyelid surgery is a wonderful way to refresh your eyes and enhance your look, but the cost will certainly play a role in your decision to have the procedure done.  So how much does eyelid surgery cost?

What Is Eyelid Surgery?

Eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that is done to rejuvenate the eyelids, and make the eyes look refreshed and youthful.  Upper blepharoplasty addresses sagging skin on the upper eyelids, whereas lower blepharoplasty corrects bags or puffiness beneath the eyes.

How Much Does Eyelid Surgery Cost?

According to the most recent data from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), the average cost of eyelid surgery is $3,282.   However, the cost of eyelid surgery often differs between practices, because several factors go into determining the final price tag (learn more).

Factors That Affect The Cost Of Eyelid Surgery

  • Surgeon’s Fees

The fee charged by the surgeon for eyelid surgery varies based on their experience and accreditation.   When selecting a surgeon to perform eyelid surgery patients should ensure he/she has a high level of expertise and not focus on price alone.

  • Geographic Location

The cost of blepharoplasty varies by region and tends to be more expensive in large urban centers where overheads are higher.

  • Extent Of The Procedure

The cost of eyelid surgery can vary depending on whether the upper lids or lower lids are being addressed.  Surgery will cost more if both the upper and lower eyelids are being done.

Surgical facility fees, anesthesia fees, and the cost of prescription medication can also influence the final cost of eyelid surgery.

Will Insurance Cover Eyelid Surgery?

Medical insurance companies generally don’t cover the cost of cosmetic eyelid surgery.

Are There Any Side-Effects With Chemical Peels?

Are There Any Side-Effects With Chemical Peels?

Are you interested in a minimally invasive treatment that can improve your appearance and reverse signs of aging?  A chemical peel can boost the beauty of your skin and make it tighter and brighter.   But are there any side-effects with chemical peels?

What Is A Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel is a skin rejuvenation treatment in which a chemical solution is applied to the skin to peel away the outer layer of dry, dead cells.  This triggers cell renewal and increases the moisture content of the skin.

Chemical peels transform the skin by improving conditions such as wrinkles, scars, discoloration, and enlarged pores.  There are different types of chemical peels – light or superficial, medium, and deep.

Are There Any Side-Effects With Chemical Peels?

Some side-effects should be expected after a chemical peel, but the type and severity vary depending on the strength of the peel.

Light peels often result in some redness, irritation, as well as a stinging sensation, but these side-effects typically subside within a few days.  Light peels require about 1 week for healing.

Medium peels typically involve the use of TCA (trichloroacetic acid), so the side-effects are more intense than those associated with a light peel.  The redness usually fades within 7-10 days, and there may also be mild swelling for a day or two.  The skin will start to peel about 2-3 days after treatment.  Medium peels take 10-14 days to heal.

Deep peels can only be performed once and are typically done with phenol.   Deep peels can affect the heart so they should be avoided by people with heart disease.  Deep peels can also cause liver and kidney damage.

Other side-effects of chemical peels include scarring, crusting, a change in skin color, infection, and cold sore reactivation.

Does CoolSculpting Really Work?

Does CoolSculpting Really Work?

Have you heard of CoolSculpting but you’re somewhat skeptical about the claims of the technology?  CoolSculpting’s fat freezing technology is unfamiliar to many people, so it’s not surprising that they are curious to find out if CoolSculpting really works.

Does CoolSculpting Really Work?

Yes, CoolSculpting does work.  CoolSculpting is a revolutionary non-invasive treatment that uses a system of controlled cooling known as cryolipolysis, to remove stubborn bulges of fat.  A single CoolSculpting treatment can reduce fat in the targeted area by 20-25%.  Therefore, one treatment is often all that’s needed to get the desired results.  Here’s how CoolSculpting works!

When the CoolSculpting applicator is placed on the treatment area it selectively freezes and kills the fat cells, because they are more sensitive to freezing temperatures.  However, it does not harm the surrounding skin and underlying tissue.   The fat cells frozen during treatment are naturally processed out of the body over the following weeks.

Some improvement can be seen about 3 weeks after treatment but optimal results can take up to 4 months.

CoolSculpting is an innovative way to remove stubborn bulges of fat and create the body shape you’ve always wanted.

How Long Do The Results Last?

Once the fat cells are shed they are gone for good, so the results are long-lasting. However, it’s important to maintain a healthy lifestyle to avoid excessive fat gain in the remaining fat cells.

Am I A Candidate For CoolSculpting?

If you have small to moderate areas of fat that you haven’t been able to reduce with diet and exercise, you may be a good candidate for CoolSculpting.  CoolSculpting is intended for use on the abdomen, flanks, thighs, upper arms, back fat, bra fat, submental area (fat under the chin), and fat beneath the buttocks (banana roll).   It is not a weight-loss treatment.

How Does a Facial Fat Transfer Work?

How Does a Facial Fat Transfer Work?

Is your sagging face making you look older than you are?  Your sagging skin is likely due to the loss of facial fat.  Volume loss is a major cause of facial aging because it causes hollowness in the cheeks, temples, and the area around the eyes.  Facial fat transfer is a relatively simple technique for reversing volume loss in the face.  But how does facial fat transfer work?

What Is A Facial Fat Transfer?

Facial fat transfer or facial fat grafting is a procedure in which fat is removed from another part of the body and transferred to the face to restore volume.  Typical donor areas include the abdomen, flanks, or thighs.   Facial fat transfer can be done as a standalone procedure, or combined with other facial rejuvenation treatments such as a facelift or blepharoplasty for more enhanced results.

How Does A Facial Fat Transfer Work?

Facial fat transfer is a multi-step procedure.  The fat is first harvested from the donor area using a gentle liposuction technique.  The extracted fat is processed to separate it from the body fluids, and then injected into specific areas of the face to replenish volume.

Fat transfer technology is now available in the form of BeautiFill non-surgical fat transfer.  BeautiFill is a laser-based fat transfer system that combines liposuction, fat grafting, and skin tightening.  BeautiFill harvests fat cells efficiently and this increases fat viability to ensure more consistent facial rejuvenation results.   The results of BeautiFill are long-lasting and look completely natural.

Facial areas that can be successfully treated with fat transfer include the cheeks, temples, nasolabial folds, and jawline.

Facial fat transfer is a wonderful way to improve signs of aging and restore a healthier, more youthful appearance.

Does Botox Last Forever?

Does Botox Last Forever?

If you are interested in reducing minor wrinkles in specific facial areas but don’t want to undergo surgery, you may want to consider botox injections.  Botox is one of the most popular anti-aging treatments on the market, but you might be wondering – Does botox last forever?

What Is Botox?

Botox or botulinum toxin is a neurotoxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum.  It is a wrinkle-relaxing treatment that is used to smooth mild to moderate wrinkles on the forehead and around the eyes.  These are dynamic wrinkles that form as a result of repeated muscle movement.

Does Botox last Forever?

Botox is a temporary wrinkle-relaxing treatment, so it does not last forever.  Individual results vary, but the outcomes of botox typically last 3-6 months.  However, studies show that the long term use of botox can reduce the strength of the muscles and cause the results to last longer.

As the effects of botox start to wear off, activity will return to the injected facial muscles, and dynamic wrinkles will start to reappear.  Botox injections must therefore be repeated over time to maintain the results.

How Does Botox Work?

Botox smooths frown lines and crow’s feet by weakening the muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles to develop in the skin.  When the underlying muscles are relaxed the wrinkles become smoother.  Botox also prevents new wrinkles from forming, so the face looks refreshed and youthful.

Botox takes less than an hour to administer.  There is no downtime after treatment so patients can resume normal activities right away.

How Long Do Dermal Fillers Last

How Long Do Dermal Fillers Last

Are you thinking of getting dermal fillers to counteract signs of facial aging?  Wrinkles, sagging cheeks, and thin lips are some of the telltale signs of facial aging that can be addressed with dermal fillers.  But how long do dermal fillers last?

What Are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are cosmetic injectables that rejuvenate the skin and create a more youthful appearance.  They can be used to reduce facial lines and wrinkles, and restore volume to the soft tissues to improve facial balance and symmetry.

How Long Do Dermal Fillers Last?

The longevity of a dermal filler varies depending on the individual properties of the filler.

Hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers such as Juvederm and Restylane are among the most popular dermal fillers now available.  HA is a substance that occurs naturally in the body and keeps the skin hydrated.  When HA fillers are injected into the skin they attract water.  The added moisture hydrates the skin, helping to fill in wrinkles and fine lines.

HA fillers can last anywhere from 6 months to 2 years. The material gradually breaks down over time, and the particles are absorbed by the body.

Other dermal fillers include those made of calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA) and  Poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA).  Radiesse is a CaHA filler that typically lasts 12 months, and  Sculptra is a PLLA filler that lasts for approximately 2 years.

Radiesse and Sculptra are collagen stimulators, so they help to promote the body’s natural production of collagen.  The collagen remodeling process takes place over several months, so the effects are long-lasting.

What is Accutane?

What is Accutane?

If you’ve tried a variety of treatments to clear your acne and nothing seems to work, it may be time to talk to your doctor about Accutane.  When it comes to treating acne, Accutane is known as the drug of last resort.  But what exactly is Accutane, and how does it help acne.

What Is Accutane?

Accutane is the brand name for isotretinoin which is an oral retinoic acid that is often used in the treatment of acne, including cystic acne.  Cystic acne is a severe form of acne that causes painful, inflamed lesions to appear on the skin.

Accutane is a powerful medication that is derived from vitamin A.  It is typically recommended for patients that have not been helped by prescription medication and other interventions.

The specific dosage of Accutane needed varies for each patient, depending on the type and severity of the acne being treated.   Most patients are acne-free after 4-6 months of Accutane treatment.

How Accutane Helps Acne

Accutane combats acne by reducing the size of the sebaceous glands and decreasing the amount of oil they produce.  Accutane also reduces acne-causing p. acnes bacteria.   Controlling oil production and removing bacteria unclogs the pores of the skin, so blackheads and whiteheads are less likely to develop.

Are There Any Side-Effects?

There are several side-effects associated with Accutane including chapped lips and dry skin, but more severe side-effects can occur with high doses of the drug.  Accutane can also cause birth defects, so it should not be taken by pregnant women.   It’s for this reason that Accutane is only available under a special program known as iPledge.

Is Laser Hair Removal Truly Permanent?

Is Laser Hair Removal Truly Permanent?

Do you have unwanted facial or body hair that you’re tired of shaving?  Laser hair removal is a quick, precise alternative that delivers consistent results.  In the last few years, laser hair removal has become the preferred option for people wanting to be hair free forever.  But is laser hair removal truly permanent?

How Laser Hair Removal Works

The light from the laser directly targets the pigment at the base of the hair follicle.  The pigment absorbs the laser light and this generates heat within the follicle and damages the growth center that produces hair.  This damage may delay or prevent the growth of new hair.  The treated hair will eventually fall out in the weeks following treatment.

Is Laser Hair Removal Truly Permanent?

Laser hair removal is not permanent, but it can reduce hair for very long periods.

Laser hair removal does not remove every hair follicle, because hair grows in phases and only absorbs laser energy efficiently during the growth phase.   During the resting and transition phases, the hair is unable to absorb sufficient laser light to damage the hair growth center.  Therefore, patients will experience hair growth after treatment.  It typically takes about 6 laser hair removal cycles to achieve the desired hair reduction.

Patients should expect indefinite or long-term hair reduction rather than permanent results with laser hair removal.

Choosing an experienced medical provider with the necessary training and skill is the key to getting the best results with laser hair removal.

How safe is botox

How safe is botox

Thinking about getting botox? Botox is a quick treatment that is relatively affordable, so it’s accessible to many people.  Although botox is such a popular aesthetic treatment, people still have a lot of questions about it, since its derived from a dangerous substance.  So how safe is botox.

Benefits of botox

Botox treats dynamic wrinkles, which are the lines that develop as a result of repeated muscle contractions, when making expressions such as squinting, frowning, and smiling.  It is therefore the ideal solution for reducing horizontal forehead lines, crow’s feet, and frown lines between the eyebrows.  Botox works by blocking the nerve signals to the muscles.   The effects last 3-4 months.

How safe is botox

Botox is the brand name for botulinum toxin type A, which is a neurotoxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, which can cause botulism (type of food poisoning).  Botulinum toxin can be poisonous in its pure state, but botox is made from highly diluted amounts of the toxin, and is injected in very small doses.

There may be slight swelling and bruising at the injection site after botox treatment, but these symptoms usually resolve within a few hours.  Therefore, patients can resume normal activities immediately after treatment.

Botox has been evaluated and approved by the FDA, and has a very safe history.  Millions of people in the US have been treated with botox since it gained FDA approval in 2002, and few adverse effects or complications have been reported.

Botox is therefore very safe, as long as it is administered by a qualified, experienced medical professional, preferably a board-certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon.
