How is I-Lipo different from traditional Liposuction?

If you would like to sculpt and shape your body, but you’re wary of thepain and risk of traditional lipo, there are very effective alternatives like I-Lipo to choose from. I-Lipo contours the body by reducing fat cells, and smoothing the appearance of cellulite. With I-Lipo, you can lose inches off your body in just one hour. But how much is I-Lipo different from traditional liposuction?

I-Lipo vs Traditional Liposuction
I-Lipo and traditional liposuction differ in their approach to the removal of fat. During I-Lipo the laser energy heats up and breaks down the fat cells, causing the fat deposits to be discharged into the bloodstream. The fat is then metabolized by the body.I-Lipo is great for problem areas such as the thighs and abdomen. Exercise is normally recommended post treatment, to ensure that the fat deposits are completely eliminated.

With traditional liposuction, a cannula or small tube is used to break up the fat deposits. The fat is then removed via a suction attached to the cannula. There is typically significant pain and bruising after the procedure. Downtime is significant, so patients have to take time off from work and from their normal exercise routine.

The I-Lipo Difference
I-Lipo is a non-surgical treatment that requires no incisions and no anesthesia. There is also no risk of infection, and no downtime. In addition, there are side-effects such as scars, bleeding, bruising, or other discomfort.  I-Lipo treatments are quick, as a session takes 1 hour or less. It typically requires about 8 I-Lipo sessions to achieve the desired outcome.

For best results with I-Lipo, it is always recommended that you consult a well-trained,board certified plastic surgeon.  Clients in Orange County can contact Kyle Song, MD, of Song Plastic Surgery, Irvine, CA, for more information. Call949-701-4454 today and schedule a consultation with Dr. Song.

Juvederm XC vs Juvederm Voluma XC: does one injectable last longer than the other?

Dermal fillers are a great way to refresh your appearance, because they fill in lines and correct volume loss to make you look more youthful. Juvederm XC and Juvederm Voluma XC are 2 popular fillers used for facial rejuvenation. One question often asked about them is this – Juvederm XC vs Juvederm Voluma XC: does one injectable last longer than the other?

Juvederm XC
Juvederm XC is very effective for reducing wrinkles on the face, especially nasolabial folds and smile lines. It can also be used on vertical lip lines.

Juvederm Voluma XC
Juvederm Voluma XC is FDA approved for correcting loss of volume in the cheek or midface area. It is the ideal solution for men and women experiencing loss of fat in the cheek and jowls due to aging.

Which one lasts longer
Both Juvederm XC and Juvederm Voluma XC are made from hyaluronic acid (HA). Most HA fillers like Juvederm XC generally last between 6 to 12 months. However, Juvederm Voluma XC can last up to 2 years.Juvederm Voluma XC has a thicker consistency and larger particles than Juvederm XC, and this contributes to the longer duration.

Juvederm XC and Juvederm Voluma XC are not the same, as they each correct different aspects of facial aging. They should therefore not be used interchangeably. In order to achieve optimal results, the fillers must be injected to the correct depth and the right location.

medical treatment for Wart Removal

What is the best medical treatment for wart removal?

Warts are usually harmless but annoying growths on the skin, which are caused by viruses. They usually vary in size and shape. There are various methods that can be used to treat warts, but the choice depends on how severe the wart is. So how do you determine what is the best medical treatment for wart removal? It is always advisable to seek the assistance of a dermatologist or other skin care expert.

Treatment methods include:

•    Cryotherapy: Freezing the wart (cryotherapy), is a popular treatment for common warts. Cyrotherapy involves the use of a cold substance such as liquid nitrogen, to freeze the wart. The liquid nitrogen is applied only for a few seconds, but the treatment may be repeated if needed.

The wart usually falls off within 3 to 5 days. Patients can expect to experience some pain after the procedure, but this usually resolves within a few days.

•    Vbeam Laser: The Vbeam laser treatment is also used for wart removal. The Vbeam is a pulsed dye laser that emits focused laser energy. The laser energy penetrates the skin and gets to the source of the wart. The heat effectively destroys the wart virus at the root, without affecting the surrounding skin.

Wart removal using the Vbeam laser only lasts a few minutes, but several sessions may be required.  The Vbeam laser is a safe and precise solution for getting rid of warts, and there is no downtime after the procedure.

Hair Transplant

How is the Modern Day Hair Transplant different from traditional hair transplant?

If your hair is thinning, or you have a receding hairline, you may want to consider a hair transplant. Hair transplantation can be done using the strip method, or the more modern Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE),the choice depends a lot on the individual patient. But how is the modern day hair transplant different from traditional hair transplant? While both methods can improve hair fullness, they utilize different hair harvesting techniques.

Traditional Strip Method
With this method, a strip of the scalp that has hairs on it is taken from the back of the head. The strip is then divided into individual grafts, before being placed at the recipient sites. This technique results in a narrow linear scar at the back of the head.

Modern Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) Method
FUE involves the extraction of individual follicular units that are harvested directly from the scalp, using a punch needle. At Awaken Aesthetics, Torrance, CA, this is done using an automated device known as the SmartGraft. The SmartGraft improves the accuracy of the procedure,as well as the survival rate of the grafts.

Advantages of modern hair transplant:

  • Results look more natural, as the new hairs merge easily with the existing hair.
  • Faster recovery time.
  • Less pain at the donor site.
  • Leaves very tiny micro-scars in the donor area that are not easily detectable.

The results with FUE are superior to those achieved with the traditional strip method.

Both hair transplant methods are available at Awaken Aesthetics. Surgery is performed by Dr. Mike Sheu, a highly experienced, board certified hair transplant surgeon. Dr. Sheu uses his immense skill and expertise to achieve the natural-looking hairline patients desire. Call 310-791-2233 today and schedule a consultation.

How long do I have to wait to wear glasses or sunglasses after otoplasty surgery?

For people with prominent ears that stick out significantly, Otoplasty can be performed to recontour the ears, and make them look more natural. One of the questions that comes up frequently about Otoplasty is, “How long do I have to wait to wear glasses or sunglasses after otoplasty surgery.” Many patients are anxious to resume wearing glasses after surgery, especially to protect their eyes (click here).

Otoplasty (ear pinning surgery) is a surgical procedure that is done to reposition the ears. It is performed on an outpatient basis, and takes about 2 to 3 hours to complete.

How long do you have to wait to wear glasses?
The incision for ear pinning surgery is generally made behind the ear, and since the glasses sits on the back of the ears, it’s best not to resume wearing your glasses or sunglasses until the incision has healed completely.

Immediately after surgery, patients are required to wear a compression garment in order to minimize any swelling. After a few days the compression garment is switched to a headband that should fit loosely over the ears, protecting them from any accidental bumps.

Healing should be complete within 2 to 3 weeks and after this time; it is usually safe to wear glasses again.

You should have a discussion with your plastic surgeon about when to start wearing your sunglasses after otoplasty, as recommendations may differ depending on the specifics of your individual surgery.
