What is the difference between a breast lift and breast augmentation?

Would you like to enhance the appearance of your breasts, but you’re not sure if you need a breast lift or breast augmentation. It’s a difficulty many women face, because they don’t know what is the difference between a breast lift and breast augmentation.

Pregnancy, aging, and weight fluctuations can all alter the shape and size of the breasts. However, breast surgery in the form of a breast lift and/or breast augmentation can restore the youthful contours and fullness of the breasts. But how do you know which is the right procedure for you.

What is the difference between a breast lift and breast augmentation?

Breast Lift: A breast lift (mastopexy) is designed to lift and tighten droopy breasts, making them perkier and firmer. This involves removing any excess, stretched skin and reshaping the breast tissue. The size and position of the nipple/areola complex may also have to be adjusted (click here to learn more).

Breast Augmentation: Breast augmentation (augmentation mammoplasty) is a procedure that is used to make the breasts larger and fuller, usually with the use of implants. The implants are normally filled with silicone gel or sterile salt water (click here to learn more).

A breast lift will correct sagging, droopy breasts but it will not make the breasts larger. On the other hand, breast augmentationaddresses changes to the size and shape of thebreasts. It will also improve the symmetry of the breasts, and provide a better proportioned figure.

What does a browlift do?

Would you like to get rid of those forehead lines that are making you look tired or angry? A brow lift may be the solution for you. But what exactly does a brow lift do, and how can it help your tired-looking eyes.

Age, sun damage, and loss of skin elasticity all contribute to the aging of the face, and the brows and forehead are often the first areas to show signs of aging.

What does a browlift do?
A brow lift can give you beautiful eyes, because it corrects eyebrows that sag or droop, and energizes tired looking eyes.A brow lift gets rid of the vertical lines between the brows, often referred to as ‘worry lines.’ It also eliminates those deep frown lines in the upper face. These improvements give the forehead a smooth, more youthful look and rejuvenate the entire face. The results of brow lift surgery can last up to 10 years.

What’s involved in a browlift?
There are different approaches that can be used when performing a brow lift. However, the procedure typically involves repositioning the skin and soft tissues to restore the brows to a natural, rested position.

Is a brow lift right for you?
If the signs of aging in your face are focused in the forehead region, and your brows have lost their shape and are not as nicely arched as before, you may be a good candidate for a brow lift.

What areas of the body can be treated with fat transfer?

If you lack volume in some parts of your body, and have other areas that have stubborn pockets of fat deposits, fat transfer can add volume where you need it. But what areas of the body can be treated with fat transfer.

What is fat transfer?
Fat transfer, also known as autologous fat transfer or lipo-augmentation,is a procedure in which fat is taken from select areas with excess fat, and transferred to places that have volume loss. The procedure uses the patient’s own fat which is typically harvested from regions such as the outer thighs, buttocks, or abdomen.

Lipo-augmentationis usually done on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia, and takes about 2-3 hours to complete. The fat is harvested from the donor site using a gentle liposuction technique. The fat tissue is then processed, before being injected into the areas that need volume.

What areas of the body can be treated with fat transfer?
Most areas of the body can be treated with fat transfer. It is commonly used on the face to add volume to the cheeks and undereye hollows, fill in depressions and deep wrinkles, and augment the lips. Fat transfer can also restore volume to other parts of the body such as the breasts, buttocks, back of the hands, and calves.

Fat transfer is an effective procedure that can produce incredible results when performed by a board certified plastic or cosmetic surgeon.
