Are you thinking of getting dermal fillers to counteract signs of facial aging? Wrinkles, sagging cheeks, and thin lips are some of the telltale signs of facial aging that can be addressed with dermal fillers. But how long do dermal fillers last?
What Are Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers are cosmetic injectables that rejuvenate the skin and create a more youthful appearance. They can be used to reduce facial lines and wrinkles, and restore volume to the soft tissues to improve facial balance and symmetry.
How Long Do Dermal Fillers Last?
The longevity of a dermal filler varies depending on the individual properties of the filler.
Hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers such as Juvederm and Restylane are among the most popular dermal fillers now available. HA is a substance that occurs naturally in the body and keeps the skin hydrated. When HA fillers are injected into the skin they attract water. The added moisture hydrates the skin, helping to fill in wrinkles and fine lines.
HA fillers can last anywhere from 6 months to 2 years. The material gradually breaks down over time, and the particles are absorbed by the body.
Other dermal fillers include those made of calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA) and Poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). Radiesse is a CaHA filler that typically lasts 12 months, and Sculptra is a PLLA filler that lasts for approximately 2 years.
Radiesse and Sculptra are collagen stimulators, so they help to promote the body’s natural production of collagen. The collagen remodeling process takes place over several months, so the effects are long-lasting.
