Rhinoplasty commonly known as a nose job is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures performed around the world. Some people do it to correct a specific medical condition, while others opt for surgery because they are unhappy with the appearance of their nose. But how long is the recovery time for a rhinoplasty.
Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty or nose surgery is a surgical procedure that is performed on the nose for cosmetic or functional reasons. The operation is usually done as an outpatient procedure under local or general anesthesia.
Rhinoplasty may be done using the closed or open technique. With the closed technique, all the incisions are made inside the nostrils, but with the open technique an additional incision is made on the columella, which is the tissue between the nostrils.
How long is the recovery time for a Rhinoplasty?
The recovery time after rhinoplasty is variable as it depends on several factors including the surgical technique used by the surgeon, and the extent of the operation. However, downtime generally averages about 7-14 days.
After rhinoplasty, patients can expect to experience significant swelling, as well as some bruising. Most of the swelling and bruising should go down by the end of the second week, but the swelling can take several months to fully resolve.
Most patients are able to return to work within 7-10 days, as the cast and sutures are usually removed by this time.
What to expect
Improvements can be seen within 1-3 months of surgery, but the final results can take up to 1 year.
