How Much Does Laser Tattoo Removal Cost?

Are you considering laser tattoo removal? If so, you’re sure to have a lot of questions about the procedure, but the number one question is likely to be – How much does laser tattoo removal cost?

The Laser Tattoo Removal Process

During laser tattoo removal the laser emits pulses of light energy that penetrate the skin and selectively target the tattoo ink pigment. The ink particles absorb the laser energy, and the heat generated breaks up the particles into tiny fragments.   The fragments are naturally flushed from the body in the weeks following treatment.

How Much Does Laser Tattoo Removal Cost?

The cost of laser tattoo removal can range from $100-$500 per session.   However, several factors can influence the final cost, including the following:

  • Tattoo Size

This is perhaps the biggest factor that affects the cost of laser tattoo removal because it generally costs more per session to remove larger tattoos.

  • Laser Technology

Up-to-date lasers are more powerful so they usually fade tattoos faster and at a lower cost when compared to older technology.

  • Tattoo Colors

All black tattoos are the least expensive to remove because black ink absorbs all wavelengths of light and therefore fades easily.  Colors such as red, green, orange, and light blue are more challenging to remove and require more sessions, so the price tag will be higher.

  • Ink Quality

Tattoos inked by professional artists are typically done using high-quality inks that take a long time to erase, so removal is more costly.

  • Age Of The Tattoo

Older tattoos are easier to remove because the body naturally breaks down the ink over time.  Therefore, a tattoo that you’ve had for a long time may be cheaper to remove than one that was recently inked.
