What Can I expect during a facelift procedure?

If you’re thinking about having a facelift done, it’s a good idea to find out what you can expect during a facelift procedure. Take the time to prepare a list of questions to ask your plastic surgeon, so that you’re fully prepared when you decide to undergo the procedure.

Facelift Surgery
A facelift is a surgical aesthetic procedure that is done to rejuvenate the face. It tightens and tones sagging skin, and reduces wrinkles and fine lines. A mini-facelift or a full facelift may be done, depending on the concerns that need to be addressed. Facelift surgery may be performed on its own or in combination with other procedures such as a browlift, or eyelid lift.

What to expect during a facelift procedure
A facelift is done under general anesthesia and can take 2-5 hours, depending on the extent of the work that needs to be doneand the surgical method used.

During a facelift you can expect the surgeon to make incisions that start in the region of the hairline, and extend down behind the ears. This incision gives the surgeon access to the face and neck so that he/she can manipulate the deep SMAS muscle layer below the skin. After the SMAS layer is adjusted, the skin is redraped and put back into position, and fat deposits are also realigned (click to learn more).

If you are considering facelift surgery, be sure to consult with a trained and experienced board certified plastic surgeon, in order to get the best possible results.
