How long is recovery from a facelift?

Have you thought about getting a facelift, but you’re concerned about recovery?   That’s understandable.  People considering facelift surgery generally want to know when they will be able to return to normal activities, so one of the first questions they ask is – How long is recovery from a facelift.

Benefits of a facelift

A facelift reduces visible signs of aging and gives the face a refreshed, youthful appearance.  It addresses laxity in the cheek area, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, jowls, and loose skin on the upper neck.

How long is recovery from a facelift?

It typically takes about 2 weeks to recover from a facelift, but this may vary depending on the type of facelift done, and the patient’s general health.  However, patients are always advised to follow the post-op instructions of their plastic surgeon closely, so that they heal properly and without complications.

Most patients are able to return to work and resume normal activities, about 10-14 days after a facelift.

What to expect after facelift surgery?

Patients should get as much rest as possible immediately after surgery.  It’s therefore best to have a family member or friend available to help out at home, at least for the first 24 hours.   Most patients feel well enough to move around after a day or two.

There is typically some swelling and bruising for about 2 weeks after facelift surgery.   Patients may also experience mild pain and discomfort, but pain medication will help to alleviate these effects.

The results of a facelift can be seen about 3 weeks after surgery, but it may take 3-6 months to see the final results.
