Seborrheic keratoses are blemishes that most people would rather not have, but they are not usually a cause for concern, so they often go untreated. However, some people feel self-conscious about these growths on their skin and look for ways to remove them. So people with the condition frequently ask their dermatologist – How can I get rid of seborrheic keratoses.
What is seborrheic keratosis?
Seborrheic keratosis is a harmless skin growth that affects older adults. The growths are usually brown, light tan, or black in color. They tend to have a waxy, scaly texture and resemble a wart or mole.
Seborrheic keratoses may be flat or slightly raised and are often seen on the face, chest, back, and shoulders. They may also look a lot like melanoma, but are not pre-cancerous growths (click here to learn more).
Treatment for seborrheic keratoses
Raised seborrheic keratoses can be effectively treated with Eskata. Eskata is a high concentration topical hydrogen peroxide solution that was FDA approved in 2017. The 40% (w/w) solution comes in a pen-like applicator that is applied directly to the seborrheic keratoses.
Most patients need two 30-minute treatments to effectively treat raised seborrheic keratoses. The treatment is not painful, but patients may feel a slight tingling sensation when the solution is applied. It takes about 3 months to see full results with Eskata. The topical solution is generally well-tolerated, but some patients may experience itching and stinging post-treatment.
There is no downtime after the procedure, so patients can resume their normal activities immediately.
