How long is Varicose Vein Treatment Recovery?
Recovery time after varicose vein treatment depends on the type of procedure performed, common procedures include Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA) or Laser Closure and Ambulatory Phlebectomy. Both procedures are done on an outpatient basis and take about 1 hour to complete.
EVLA involves the use of a laser to seal or close off the affected vein. EVLA is a comfortable treatment that results in minimal bruising and scarring, so there is little downtime. Most patients are able to resume normal activities within 5-7 days, but full recovery can take up to 4 weeks (click here to learn more).
Ambulatory Phlebectomy is a procedure that removes large varicose veins near the surface of the skin via microscopic incisions made alongside the diseased vein. There is minimal to no scarring after ambulatory phlebectomy, and patients generally don’t experience any post-procedural discomfort, so they can resume normal activities immediately. However, strenuous activity should be avoided.
