How to choose the best sunscreen skin care line

We all know how important sunscreen is, especially during the summer, but most of us don’t know how to choose the best sunscreen skin care line. Choosing sunscreen has gotten complicated in the last few years, as the technological advancements in the cosmetic industry has created many new lines on the market. So what should you look for? Let’s find out.

When shopping for sunscreen the choice often depends on the SPF factor, ingredients, and of course your skin type.

  • SPF factor: The sun protection factor is an indication of the type of protection to expect from your sunscreen. Skin care experts generally advise to go with a sun block with a SPF factor of about 30 or higher. However, it is also advisable to choose a sun block that offers broad spectrum protection. This means that it will protect your skin from UVA as well as UVB radiation.
  • Ingredients:  Look out for ingredients such as zinc oxide, and titanium dioxide that are physical blockers, as well as avobenzone and ecamsule that offer UVA protection. It’s also important to ensure that the ingredients won’t cause the sunblock to break down when it is exposed to sunlight.
  • Skin Type: If your skin is sensitive or burns easily, you may want to select a sunscreen that offers broad spectrum and a SPF of 30 or more. If your skin is dry then make certain that your sunscreen also has moisturizing ingredients. However, if you have oily skin, lightweight sunscreens are best.
