Does PRP Therapy for Hair Loss Hurt?

Are you looking for an effective solution for your hair loss? PRP Therapy may regrow it for you. PRP Therapy is an emerging remedy for hair loss, but some patients are apprehensive about it since it involves a series of injections. Because of this, one of the questions doctors often get asked about the procedure is – Does PRP therapy for hair loss hurt.

PRP Therapy for Hair Loss
PRP Therapy for hair loss is a non-surgical hair regeneration system based on wound healing technology that utilizes platelet rich plasma. Data obtained from studies carried out using PRP for hair loss, indicate that the growth factors released by the platelets help to stimulate the stem cells in the hair follicle, resulting in hair growth. However, individual results may vary with each patient.

How it works
Blood is first drawn from the patient and then spun in a centrifuge, to separate the platelets and plasma. The plasma is then injected into the areas of the scalp where hair loss has occurred.

It typically takes about 3 PRP treatments to see results.

Does PRP Therapy for Hair Loss Hurt?
PRP Therapy for hair loss is a safe, comfortable treatment that is not painful. Local anesthesia or numbing creamis applied to the scalp at the start of treatment, so the area is completely numbby the time the PRP injections are made. As a result, patients don’t usually feel any discomfort during treatment.

What is the best hair transplant procedure?

Most men admit to feeling younger and more attractive when they have a full head of hair. So that’s why those with thinning hairoften choose to undergo a hair transplant. They are usually extremely satisfied after the procedure, because it makes such a difference to their appearance. But what is the best hair transplant procedure, and is it the right one for you.

Best hair transplant procedure
The best hair transplant procedure is one that will leave your hair looking totally natural. This is precisely what you achieve with micro follicular transplant, because it’s done in a manner that mimics the way in which hair grows. The results are so seamless thatit’s virtually impossible to detect the new hair as it grows.

When the hair grafts are properly transplanted at the right angle and density, the hair grows out in directions that look natural.

How does it work?
During the procedure a thin strip of hair is removed from the donor area at the back of the head. After being harvested, the follicular hair unit is divided and the individual hairs are transplanted to the thinning or balding area.

In order to gain quality micro-follicular hair transplant results, the procedure mustbe performed by a skilled surgeon, with the necessary experience.

Is micro-follicular transplant right for you?
If you have balding or thinning areas on the top of your head you may be a good candidate for micro follicular hair transplant. However, it’s important to take the time to educate yourself about the procedure, and get a professional evaluation done by a surgeon.

When can I wash my hair after FUE hair transplant?

Losing your hair can be a traumatic experience, but if you’re battling baldness, hair transplantation can produce some remarkable results for you. Follicular unit extraction (FUE) is an advanced technique that has been helping millions regain their hair, and their confidence.  One of the questions most frequently asked about the procedure is –When can I wash my hair after FUE hair transplant.

What is FUE?
FUE is a minimally invasive hair transplant technique.  For this procedure, the hair is harvested from the back of the head, and is thenre-inserted into the balding area where it’s needed.  The follicular unit of hair usually consists of one to four hairs. FUE is a medical procedure that has a fast recovery time, because no stitches are required, and there is no scarring.

When can you wash your hair after FUE?
The recommendations differ regarding when to wash your hair after a FUE hair transplant, but they generally advise against washing until the grafts are fully healed. This takes about 1-2 weeks for most people.

Some doctors recommend dabbing the area with a surgical sponge and soapy water. Others suggest washing the hair using a gentle shampoo and cup to lightly rinse the hair in the first few days, in order to avoid disrupting the grafts, or damaging the donor area.

The method of post-op care depends on several factors including the specific needs of each patient,as well as with their hair type and density.

How is the Modern Day Hair Transplant different from traditional hair transplant?

If your hair is thinning, or you have a receding hairline, you may want to consider a hair transplant. Hair transplantation can be done using the strip method, or the more modern Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE),the choice depends a lot on the individual patient. But how is the modern day hair transplant different from traditional hair transplant? While both methods can improve hair fullness, they utilize different hair harvesting techniques.

Traditional Strip Method
With this method, a strip of the scalp that has hairs on it is taken from the back of the head. The strip is then divided into individual grafts, before being placed at the recipient sites. This technique results in a narrow linear scar at the back of the head.

Modern Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) Method
FUE involves the extraction of individual follicular units that are harvested directly from the scalp, using a punch needle. At Awaken Aesthetics, Torrance, CA, this is done using an automated device known as the SmartGraft. The SmartGraft improves the accuracy of the procedure,as well as the survival rate of the grafts.

Advantages of modern hair transplant:

  • Results look more natural, as the new hairs merge easily with the existing hair.
  • Faster recovery time.
  • Less pain at the donor site.
  • Leaves very tiny micro-scars in the donor area that are not easily detectable.

The results with FUE are superior to those achieved with the traditional strip method.

Both hair transplant methods are available at Awaken Aesthetics. Surgery is performed by Dr. Mike Sheu, a highly experienced, board certified hair transplant surgeon.
