How much does botox typically cost?

Botox is an innovative cosmetic treatment that temporarily reduces wrinkles in the upper half of the face.  If you are starting to explore botox as a treatment option for wrinkles, you are probably interested in finding out how much botox typically costs, and how it works.

How much does botox typically cost?

Botox is generally priced and sold in units, so the exact cost will depend on the number of units required for each treatment area.  The manufacturers of botox recommend a specific dosage of botox for each area, but some patients may need less.  In addition, men typically need more units of botox because they tend to have bigger facial muscles.

The average cost per unit of botox in New York ranges from $10-$20.  Each treatment area can cost anywhere from $250-$500.

If you need a cost estimate for botox treatment, it is important to consult with a botox provider that has the necessary skill and experience.  A skilled provider will be able to determine how much botox you will need to achieve natural-looking results.

How botox works

Botox works by blocking the nerve signals that cause the muscles to contract and create dynamic wrinkles i.e. forehead wrinkles, frown lines, and crow’s feet.   These wrinkles develop as a result of repetitive facial expressions such as frowning, squinting, and smiling.  The skin loses flexibility over time, and is therefore not able to bounce back easily after these facial expressions are made, and that’s why dynamic wrinkles emerge.

When botox is injected into the facial muscles it causes them to relax.  The muscle relaxation smooths the overlying skin, and minimizes wrinkles.
